Upcoming presidential election:

Mitt Romney is the Republican nominee.  We enthusiastically support his candidacy.  For my friends who have hesitation on that score, I’d just ask you to keep four things in mind:

    1. Justice Scalia is 76 years old
    2. Justice Kennedy is 76 years old
    3. Justice Breyer turned 74 in August
    4. Justice Ginsburg turned 79 a couple months ago.

In addition, Justice Ginsburg has Pancreatic Cancer.  Justice Stephen Breyer has already indicated he would retire and is just waiting to see if Obama is reelected.  The next president could appoint as many as 4 new Justices over next 8 years.  This election is about more than the economy, ObamaCare, Medicare, and the National Debt.

We wish them all well, of course, but the brute fact is that whoever we elect as president in November is almost certainly going to choose at least one new member of the Supreme Court, in addition to hundreds of other life-tenured federal judges, all of whom will be making momentous decisions about our lives for decades to come.

So for anybody who is thinking of not voting because your favorite didn’t get nominated, or writing in a candidate who can’t win, imagine this:  SUPREME COURT JUSTICE ERIC HOLDER

Editors note:  Knowing many fine people in Madison County who are strong Democrats, I cannot believe that the majority of Madison County Democrats support a Platform and Resolutions like these.  When will you realize that your Party has LEFT you behind?

The stakes for conservatives in North Carolina could not be greater in 2012.  In fact, we face the ideological fight of our lives.  National Democrats and the Obama campaign will spend millions upon millions of dollars to keep North Carolina in the President’s column.  North Carolina Democrats will depend on this outside money in their attempt to take back control of state government, including the State House of Representatives.  We must not allow this to happen, as House Democrats have publicly pledged to repeal all of the common-sense legislation we passed in 2011.

One look at the state Democratic convention this past weekend demonstrates the extreme liberal fringe that makes up today’s North Carolina Democratic Party.  Resolutions adopted by the NCDP at their convention include:

• A single-payer national healthcare system (which would be significantly to the left of the job-killing monstrosity that is ObamaCare)

• Repeal of the marriage amendment (that was recently approved by 61% of North Carolinians)

• The full legalization of marijuana (not just for medicinal purposes, which is a position to the left of even California Democrats)

• The abandonment of nuclear energy as part of the U.S. energy policy (which would in turn force us to become even more dependent on foreign oil)

• Full abolishment of the death penalty

• A demand for collective bargaining rights for workers (which would be extremely detrimental to attracting new business investment in North Carolina)

• Opposition to state-level immigration reform (while the federal government continues to ignore the issue)

• The creation of a Cabinet-level Department of Peace and Nonviolence (which is just absurd)

These positions are so outside of the mainstream, one wonders if they were even meant to be serious.  Of course, you never know what to expect when you’re dealing with the same body that decided to keep their Party Chairman after his role in the cover-up of a sexual harassment scandal, who continue to support the least popular governor in the country (who may have recently committed fraud by altering official documents to protect her pet spending projects), and who just nominated a candidate for governor who has promised to keep the exact same policies as his predecessor.

It is paramount that we do everything within our power to defend and expand our majorities in 2012.  We cannot afford to let these radicalized North Carolina Democrats take back control of state government.

Support Voter ID

Governor Perdue Vetos Voter ID

“We must always be vigilant in protecting the integrity of our election, but requiring every voter to present a government-issued photo ID is not the way to do it,” said Governor Perdue as she vetoed our common-sense legislation to restore confidence in our elections and combat voter fraud.

75% of North Carolinians support our voter ID requirements, yet Governor Perdue again has decided to put politics over the will of North Carolinians.  This veto goes to show that Governor Perdue is more focused on getting re-elected and energizing her liberal base.

North Carolinians must show an ID to cash a check, to see a doctor and to enter into certain government buildings, yet Governor Perdue and her liberal allies do not think it is important to show one to vote.  Why is Governor Perdue scared of verifying someone’s identity before his or her vote?
